Adventurers Club - PIPPA LYON

mum, basecamp ambassador and internationelles 2019 team member

Join us at The Basecamp as we listen to Basecamp Ambassador Pippa Lyon share her story of the extremely tough and gruelling challenge that saw her ride all 21 stages and 3460kms of this years Tour de France.

Pippa has been training at JBC for nearly 3 years, initially concentrating on strength and learning olympic lifting before getting distracted by cycling events. Having successfully completed the Race Around Ireland with the Veloroos in 2016, Pippa was invited to join the InternationElles in an epic challenge that saw her ride all 21 stages of this year’s Tour de France- in the name of equality.
From the preparation, balancing being a new mum and training for the unknown, to meeting 7 complete strangers and sharing with them the highs, the lows, the searing heat, the saddle sores and sweaty dorm rooms, and then pulling together to finish the greatest achievement of their lives!
Don’t know much about The InternationElles? They are a female cycle team of 10 of awesome chicks around the world who committed to tackling one of the toughest cycle challenges in the world in an aim to raise awareness for gender equality in cycling.

A bit about pippa lyon

Pippa Lyon gets her kicks on two wheels. She is a competitive cyclist, who races individually and with her Australian team the Veloroos. Her latest big ride clocked around 3500km as she cycled the Tour de France a day ahead of the lads. Pippa juggles between training and competing like a demon professional athlete, being a new mum, and coming up with new mad goals.

Up Close and Personal with Pippa Lyon

One hour ago Pippa scored her first Clean & Jerk at the Saturday morning 7am Joe’s Basecamp class.

One week ago she just returned to work from maternity leave, and only four weeks ago, she finished 21 days of cycling, covering a grand total of 3,460kms. Pippa rode the Tour de France alongside a team of 9 international women, a day ahead of the lads.

This isn’t the first year this event has happened. It started in 2015 with three French women. They were aiming to raise awareness for gender equality in cycling and campaign for a women’s tour to be held alongside the men’s. It has grown every year since, with 2019 seeing such growth that a whole new international team was created. Welcome the InternationElles…
