13 Aug Want a Real Fitness Goal: Trek and Climb Island Peak in the Himalaya
Do you want a real challenge? Do you want to train for a reason? Have you done tough mudder? Oxfam Trailwalker? and a myriad of fun runs and obstacle courses? Do you want something more?
Most Treks takes you to the bottom of mountains….well we want to take you to the top! Imja Tse (Island Peak) 6189m.
Imagine how you will feel standing on the top of a Himalayan Peak. Looking around surrounded by the highest mountain range in the world.
Though classed as a trekking peak you will have the excitement of real mountaineering as we teach you basic rope, ice axe and crampon and ice skills. I’d love to stand on the summit with you, looking at one of the most amazing panorma’s in the world. I’ll be there to help you every step of the way with a highly experienced team of high altitude sherpas on hand.
To help with our acclimatisation we will also be visiting Everest Base Camp, which being during the mountaineering season will be a hive of activity as mountaineers prepare their assaults on Everest. This truly is going to be a fantastic trip.
You do not need prior Altitude experience but you do need to be physically fit. Our tentative dates are Arrive in Katmandu on Tuesday 25th March 2014
Join me as I guide you through this amazing part of the world, an area that my family have been climbing in for 60 years. Because of our relationships in the area our trek is not your standard trek.
We will:
Visit Sherpa Heritage House, the family home of Pertemba Sherpa, Pertemba was my fathers Sirdar in the 1975 South West Face Everest Expedition, he also stood on top of Everest with my father in 1975. His family home is one of the last completely traditional Sherpa dwellings
We will organise to take part in a Puja (traditional prayers and blessing) at the stunning Tengboche monastery, Puja’s are held for all the mountaineers going to climb Everest.
On the way back down we will introduce you to some local delicacies
We will have an evening at Krishnarpan, Nepals finest Restaurant serving traditional Newari food
