Meet Hannah Rillstone – a young and bubbly world explorer!

Meet the young and bubbly Hannah Rillstone, a fresh face to Joe’s Basecamp having joined in January of this year. She was initially motivated to join as the training we do allowed her to develop her general fitness in a small group setting alongside like-minded, adventurous people!
This year Hannah has taken the year off to go hiking and trekking in different parts of the world. Most recently, she hiked to the summit of mount Chirripó – the highest mountain in Costa Rica at 3860m! This huge challenge involved hiking 2500m of vertical rise through dense jungle and in muddy terrain – definitely something she says she wouldn’t have attempted prior to training at Joe’s Basecamp! We love being able to give people the confidence to attempt things they didn’t think were possible! “I felt really great when summiting Chirripo because I had never done a hike at high altitude before” she says, “It was the highest I had ever been and it was a great feeling! The last part of the climb was really challenging for me and when I made it to the summit I felt like I had really achieved something.”
Hannah is now setting her sights on the Ausangate trek in Peru in the next few weeks.
“Joe’s Basecamp has helped me achieve my adventure goals by increasing my strength and fitness and encouraging me to test my limits both physically and mentally” she says. “I have become more open to challenges and pushing myself beyond my comfort zone.” During her travels to Costa Rica, Hannah says she had the opportunity to experience the famous Costa Rican ‘Pura Vida’ mantra. It is a life philosophy that the local people live by and centres around practicing a healthy happiness and enjoying each day as it comes. Hannah believes this simple mantra makes people focus less on the stresses of life and more on how life can be enjoyed. “People today seem to be weighted down in stress and adopting a Pura Vida attitude could help people achieve greater happiness in their lives.”
