Get a protein hit with Salted Chocolate Bliss Balls

Get a protein hit with these awesome Salted Chocolate Bliss Balls from our good friend Amanda Ford at Zest and Zing.zest

This is one of Amanda’s most popular recipes, especially for anyone following a healthy eating or weight loss plan. They are a great replacement to store bought chocolate or sweets. Being rich in protein, these bliss balls aid muscle recovery after a tough strength and conditioning session and keep you fuller for longer while out on adventures. Raw cacao is the richest source of magnesium, an essential nutrient for sports recovery, energy production and stress. Enjoy one as a sweet treat or snack on the go!

Ingredients:
1 cup raw nuts (mix almonds and cashews)salty-chocolate-bliss-balls-recipe (1)
2 tablespoons unhulled tahini 1/4 cup chia seeds
3-4 tablespoons raw cacao powder
1 1/2 tablespoons maple syrup
1/4 cup coconut flakes
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 pinches of salt (as salty as you like!)
Small touch of water if needed

Optional ingredients:
1/4 cup goji berries (optional – remove for sugar free option)
1-2 serves of natural protein powder for a higher protein snack (e.g. True Protein Rich Chocolate Whey Concentrate/Isolate)
1/4 cup raw cacao nibs – for extra crunch!

Method:

Add all ingredients to a food processor or blender. Blend until well combined. Stop the blender every so often, scrape the mixture down from the sides and add small touches or water if needed.
Once ingredients are well combined and sticking together, it is ready to be rolled into balls.
Using wet hands, take a large tablespoon of mixture out and roll into balls. You can then roll the balls in whatever you like: raw cacao powder, desiccated coconut or sesame seeds.
Put these into the fridge to set, they will last up to 2 weeks….though I’m sure you’ll get through them before that!
Love to hear how you liked them.
